|Fashion Designer Francisco Azucar
Fashion Designer Francisco Azucar died yesterday night while working backstage at the 5th Annual Chillounge Night event in St Petersburg, Florida. A few hours before the show the designer had a heart attack while getting his models ready and was taken to the hospital were he was later pronounced dead. Event producers didn’t know that they had lost him even before the show started. Thinking that he was going to recover they said a prayer for him and showed his collection to a packed house only to find out later of his passing.
“Azucar” as he was better known to his friends and fashion industry professionals, was based out of Miami but he was a regular in the Tampa/St Pete fashion scene coming to Tampa several times a year to participate in fashion shows and events in the area.
Miami born Azucar was of Cuban descent and he was a very talented fashion designer, loved and respected in the community. His versatility is what set him apart from other designers.
He was able to create womenswear and menswear including swimwear and pageant dresses but he was better known for his couture designs.
Patti Wooten-Thompson owner of Phassion Magazine and close friend of Azucar said:
“”My friend Francisco Gomez aka Azucar was a beautiful and gentle man. Loved by everyone he met and who had the privilege to work with him. His legacy will remain and his designs to be admired forever. I will miss him dearly”.
We couldn’t have said it better.
Here are some pictures of some of his designs.
