Plus size retailer Ashley Stewart files for bankruptcy

Plus size retailer Ashley Stewart filed for Bankruptcy
yesterday and the company is planning to close 27 of their 168 stores as early
as the end of March.

According to the New York Post the company filed for
bankruptcy protection yesterday at
the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. In a statement
the company said that Ashley Stewart suffered a decline in revenue and
profitability in 2012 “due to a number of factors that have since been
corrected”.
It also said that it has brought on new senior management
during the past six months and refocused its merchandizing and e-commerce
efforts.
Ashley Stewart sells women’s clothing sizes 12-26 and it was
founded in 1991. The company has about 1,750 full-time and part-time employees.
