My experience at Oprah’s ‘The life You Want’ weekend in Miami

Oprah’s The Life You Want Weekend in Miami
Hola Estrellitas!!
This weekend I had the
opportunity to attend Oprah’s “The Life You Want” weekend event at the
American Airlines Arena in downtown Miami.
I was thrilled when I
received the email that I was approved as media for this event. I was so overwhelmed
just by being approved that I just couldn’t believe it. I have been a fan of
Oprah since I was a young girl and to actually have the chance to see her that
was unbelievable to me. I’m glad I did apply. I don’t get star struck but if
there is somebody that would want to meet in my life, that would be her, Oprah.
The two day event started
on Friday with “O Town”, an interactive experience outside of the arena where
all guests attending the event had the opportunity to take photos, enjoy
cooking demos, live music, check out the vendor’s booths, lounges and much
more. That took place from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. The weather in Miami was a bit
challenging since it was raining and windy but we managed.

At 6:00 pm the doors to
the arena opened and we had a chance to be seated and wait for Oprah to take
the stage.

Oprah came out to a standing ovation and a sea of lights thanks to
the interactive wristbands we were given at check-in that light up and change
colors.

She talked about her life,
growing up in Mississippi and her numerous accomplishments.  Even thought we were at a
stadium that holds thousands of people, the evening felt intimate and it was
like she was talking to you personally, one on one. The place was in complete
silence except for the times that Oprah said the occasional joke, she was very
funny actually. I’ve been told that it is always quite when Oprah speaks during
this event on the first night.
We cried and laughed with
her as she told us the story of her life. Like myself, I am sure almost
everyone in the arena knows Oprah’s life story by heart. We have googled her
and read her Wikipedia page a million times but hearing her story in her own
words was priceless.

Day two of the event on
Saturday was from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Joining Oprah on stage were spiritual
leader Deepak Chopra, life coach Iyanla Vanzant, best-selling author of “Eat, Pray, Love” Elizabeth Gilbert and Pastor Rob Bell.

SoulCycle instructor Stacey
Griffith energized the arena during her customized routine for the event SouL15.

In addition, Paralympic
Bronze Medalist snowboarder and “Dancing
with the stars”
 finalist Amy
Purdy also joined Oprah to present the Toyota’s Standing O-vation award to an
outstanding individual from the city of Miami.

The recipient was 77 year old
retired teacher Estella Pyfrom, who used her live savings to create Estella’s Brilliant Bus”, a bus with built-in computer stations that
travels to sites in different communities. The Miami-based program was
created by Estella to bridge what she refers to as the “digital divide,” the
lack of computers and technology in schools of underserved neighborhoods. Her
program has helped over 60, 000 children.

She received a $25,000 dollars
grant from Toyota and Oprah matched it with another $25,000. I
learned so many things about life this weekend and I feel like I grew
emotionally another 10 years.
