Designer Jose Solis Creative Director of David’s Bridal

Hola Estrellitas!!

Today I did an exclusive
interview with the Creative Director and Vice-President of Design for David’s
Bridal Jose Solis at the David’s Bridal store in Tampa, Florida.
David’s Bridal is one of
the premier U.S stores that specializes in wedding gowns and formal wear sizes 0 to 26. They
also have mother of the bride dresses, bridesmaids dresses, accessories (shoes,
jewelry etc.) and everything that a bride needs for her special day. David’s Bridal was founded
in 1950 by David Reisberg, the mega store chain started as a small boutique in
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and it has grown into what it is today.
Five years ago when I got married, I purchased my wedding dress at David’s Bridal and it was a wonderful experience, one that I will never
Designer Jose Solis and
his New York based team are in charge of making sure that the company always
has the latest trends and styles for the wedding seasons.
Jose has an extensive
resume having worked for Oscar de la Renta and Bill Blass before coming to
David’s Bridal. Check out our exclusive interview with Designer Jose Solis below.
Tell us about David’s Bridal new
Spring 2015 Collection?
We are focusing on our brand affiliation
and re-branding, for Melissa Sweet for example we deconstructed her line a
little bit, we soften the look, made it more romantic, eerie and light. We made
thinner cups, French seams; we have a brand new fit that is more couture but
still keeping the price affordable.

What are some of the hottest trends
and styles for the 2015 Spring/Summer wedding season?
Separates!! They are a huge trend, crop
tops with big skirts with pockets. The 2 piece wedding gowns are more individualistic,
creative; it allows women to showcase more of their personal style. Black and
White dresses (such as Vera Wang and the Zac Posen dresses), low backs are
another hot trend, and it is very sexy. Long sleeves and curve hugging dresses
are coming back, here at David’s Bridal we celebrate women’s curves. Another
trend is jumpsuits, they are very popular with our brides an also tier lace
dresses such as this one is chantilly lace.

For bridesmaids, one of the biggest trends is wearing
the same color dress but in different styles, to reflect each one of their personalities
and personal style. Another hot trend is tunnel dressing which is sort like
creating a color wheel, telling a story with different shades of the same color
starting from light to dark.

Tell us a little bit about your design
inspiration and process?
It’s a combination of many things. I
work with a team of 8 designers and we share ideas, it takes about 9 months for
each collection. We start by creating mood boards for every designer. I also go
to vintage stores, I travel the world for inspiration and I go to the fabric
show in Paris.
David’s Bridal is debuting a new
“Jewel” collection, tell us about it?
The new Jewel collection is a little bit
more embellished, celebratory and classic but we are still keeping that all American
5.     We
like to end our interviews by asking our guests for a favorite quote or some
words of wisdom, what is yours?
“We can never sell a dress to a Bride,
the dress picks her”.
