Designer Giannina Azar presented her latest collection “Maya”
last week at Dominicana Moda 2015.

The collection was inspired by the Maya culture, the models
wore red flowers in their hair and almost all of the looks in the collection were
black with colorful accents of beautiful embroidery, pom-pom trim and stones
that decorated the belts, earrings, shoes etc…no detail was missed.

Giannina collaborated with her daughter Gabriela Alvarez to
create the collection that took them almost a year and half to make. They
travelled extensively throughout Guatemala and Mexico looking for inspiration as
well as purchasing fabrics and materials to create it. In my opinion, Giannina
is one of the most talented fashion designers in the Dominican Republic, the
fact that she is not internationally known yet after so many years in the business
is mind boggling to me.
Her “Africa” collection is still one of my favorite collections
ever and I’ve seen a lot of fashion. She is known for creating collections
inspired by different countries and continents, she loves culture and her
designs are rich, they are statement making gowns for sure.

Check out some of my favorite looks from the “Maya” collection
below. What do you guys think? Leave your comments below.
