Barbie gets a makeover: We now have Curvy, Petite and Tall Barbies

By: Farrah Estrella

Barbie, the iconic doll that every little girl had or wanted to have growing up, just got a makeover.

The new Barbie dolls come in different body types: Curvy, Petite & Tall. The dolls also have different hair textures and skin tones. The idea is that they are now being made to better reflect what our society looks like today. We are more diverse than ever especially in the USA.

The New Barbie- Barbie- Barbie Dolls-

Barbie has always been controversial ever since it was created  57 years ago but that has never stopped people from buying it. Even those that grew up playing with it are now collectors of the doll.

One of the things that has always been fun about the dolls is that you were able to mix and match the clothes and accessories but with the new dolls, you won’t be able to do that. Barbie now has two different sizes of shoes, one type for the original and petite dolls and a bigger size one for the tall and curvy dolls.

I am all for this, I love diversity. Barbie is starting to look a lot like me and I’m digging it. As a matter of fact, I am going to go buy the new curvy Barbie just to support the brand for making this change. Go Matell!! and Go Barbie!!..

I will say it's long overdue. Like most girls I grew up playing with Barbie dolls. I think it is great that this generation's of girls will know have Barbie that will look more like them and the women around.
