Iris Apfel, Christian Siriano among AAFA 2016 American Image Awards Honorees

The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) recently
named their 2016 American Image Awards Honorees.
Every
year the AAFA honors those who have exemplified leadership, excellence, and
outstanding achievement in all sectors of the apparel and footwear industry,
including education, design, manufacturing, and retail.This year’s honorees include:
Iris Apfel-Fashion Maverick
Christian Siriano-Designer of the Year
Shinola Detroit-Retailer of the Year
Joseph Abboud– Person of the Year
BBC International-Company of the Year

This
is a powerful list, Christian Siriano is a young talented designer who started
his career in London working for fashion greats Alexander McQueen and Vivienne
Westwood. He then went on to win “Project
Runway”
and the rest like they say is history. 
Iris Apfel is a fashion
Icon. She started her career as an interior designer and at 93 years old, she
is now a fashion consultant and lectures about style and other fashion topics around
the country. She has an accessory line with HSN and was the subject of a documentary
film titled “Iris” in 2014.

The 38th
Annual American Image Awards are going to be held on May 24th in New
York City and the event will be hosted by fashion designer and founding editor
of InStyle Magazine Hal Rubenstein.
Every
year, the apparel and footwear industry eagerly waits for the American Image
Awards as a time to celebrate true innovation and leadership,” saidRick Helfenbein, AAFA president and CEO. “This year’s honorees epitomize the best of the industry from design through creativity, to business and marketing achievements. We’re so proud to recognize their successful contributions”.
The
American Image Awards always draws hundreds of apparel and footwear executives,
industry influencers, fashion icons, and celebrities to its red carpet event. This
year’s show is going to benefit “Mercy Ships” for the second year in a row. 
Mercy Ships is a global organization that is committed to provide to the
world’s impoverished with free basic healthcare and life-changing medical
surgeries. The organization was founded in 1078 and it has served in 70
countries, touched 2.5 million patients, and provided over $1.2 billion in
services.
