Music and Fashion Icon Prince died today at the age of 57.
Prince was a beloved singer, songwriter, performer and music producer, one of the best from our generation. He was a pioneer of the “Minnesota sound”, an innovator, who was also known for his fashion, his hair and his androgynous look.
The cause of death is still unknown, his publicist Yvette Noel-Schure released a statement that said: ” It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park
residence this morning at the age of 57″.
Born and raised in Minneapolis, Prince was a musical genius, he played the guitar, the drums, the piano and many other instruments which he learned to play on his own, he was self taught. In his first album he played 27 different instruments.
Prince’s chart topping hits included: “Kiss”, “When Doves Cry”, “Little Red Corvette”, “1999” and “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” just to name a few. He starred in the semi biographical movie “Purple Rain” and the song of the same title won him an Oscar in 1984.
Labeled as eccentric and flamboyant, he was also very private and at times shy. At 5’2″ , he often wore heels, was a vegan and a devout Jehovah’s Witness. He sold over 100 million records and won 7 Grammys.
It’s a sad day for the Art world, he really was a true artist and will be dearly missed by all his fans including myself.
