Plus Size Fashion Bloggers are Taking the Fashion Industry by Storm
Bloggers or aka “Influencers” how they are being called now, have a huge following and their followers and fans are really buying what they are selling. Most of the bloggers featured in these campaigns are full time Bloggers, which means, they blog for a living and their main income comes from their blog.
In the past, a lot of big brands have shied away from using bloggers for their fashion campaigns because according to them, they are not “Models”, they have conducted studies and people don’t like seeing “big people” in advertisements, “They don’t have time to train them for a photoshoot” or afford bad pictures etc… The truth is, these are all excuses. Brands have more control over budgets or who they use or not use for their campaigns than they are willing to say. Bloggers are like celebrities now and their influence is undeniable.
What we like the most about these campaigns is not that they are using bloggers but that they are using Plus Size Bloggers, there is a difference. We also love that they used bloggers from very different ethnic backgrounds and sizes. It is great to see diversity in fashion.
But is the tide changing? or is this a fad? Some people say that “Curves are Trending”, I disagree. We have been here the whole time, the rest of the world is just catching up to us. I read an article recently on Bloomberg.com about designer Prabal Gurung and he was talking about how “Beauty is no longer a size zero”. Once again, it never has been, the rest of the world is catching up to us.
The world is a very diverse place even though the “World of fashion” doesn’t think so. They have lived in the bubble for so long that they forgot what normal, everyday people, (Who are the ones that keep their lights on BTW), really look like and that not all of us are a size 2. Now, please don’t think that I am hating on skinny people, if you follow my blog you will know that I blog about fashion in general because I feel that fashion should be inclusive. On my Blog you can expect to see: Kids fashion, couture, plus size fashion, menswear, accessories etc…if it is fashion related, I am going to blog about it because fashion is not one group of people, fashion is for everyone.
My favorite campaign so far of course was the Ashley Stewart one because, I was a part of it (Ok I admit, I am a little bias..lol…) but I also liked the Torrid campaign because they used models, bloggers and customers. How cool is that!
This article could really be 8 pages long. There is so much to talk about in these campaigns but my main point is: Let’s celebrate diversity, let’s for once and for all, give the respect and accolades to bloggers that they deserve for changing the industry and being a positive influence and finally, let me just say: We (Plus size people). are not a fad or a trend, we have always been here…the rest of the world is just catching up to us.
