Hola Estrellitas! Today’s 5 questions interview is with Plus Size Blogger and Influencer Bruce Sturgell from Chubstr. I have known of Bruce for a few years now, and we have bumped into each other a few times at plus size fashion events, but it wasn’t until last year, when I attended an event in Portland, Oregon that I really had the chance to speak with him and learned how passionate he was about plus size fashion and menswear. He really inspired me and that is one of the reasons why I wanted to interview him for my Blog and introduce him to you guys.

1-How did you get started in Blogging?
I started blogging out of frustration. I lived in the Midwest at the time and I was at that line between being able to find clothes in my size at the mall, and not. After a number of trips that ended with me leaving empty-handed, I decided to start a Tumblr blog to complain about brands not carrying extended size clothing. I also started sharing looks that I had put together and information on where other people could find them. To my surprise, people began to like and share those posts. Then they were sending in their own! I was also getting questions about where to find clothes in extended sizes, and I quickly realized that I could create something that would serve as a resource for people. About 6 months after I started the original Tumblr blog, Chubstr was born.

2-What are your favorite plus size brands or designers?
I like certain pieces from a wide variety of plus size brands. I like Target’s Goodfellow & Co, Asos men’s plus selections, Large Lad Clothing, and MVP Collections. I’m a big fan of what The Winston Box is doing with their subscription service. They’ve come a long way since the beginning. Brandon Kyle Menswear is great too! Also, you can’t count out DXL and Kingsize. Both companies are starting to focus on offering a better variety of clothing with more stylish options. Those are just a few of the brands that come to mind right now. I like exploring and trying new brands, and it seems like we’re getting more and more options every year.

3-What advice would you give to any up and coming plus size Blogger or Influencer?
Work hard, have realistic goals, find your voice and be prepared for growth to take a while. Most of the people doing this full time are building a brand or a resource that others can use. That takes time. Find a way to do it that is true to you, and work at it. I’ve been doing this for almost 8 years now, and I can tell you that it’s worth all the work you put in.

4-Tell us about any upcoming projects and how can we follow your journey?
We put out our first show, called “Sized Up” last year, so we’re looking at expanding and creating other series. There are some other things in the works that I can’t talk about yet, but I think 2018 is going to be our best year yet.
