Sooo…MAC is just gonna nonchalant drop the news on social media that their products are going be carried at ULTA stores soon. Ok MAC, we see you.

You’re not dreaming. M·A·C is coming to @ultabeauty this Spring! #UltaBeautyLovesMAC

A post shared by M·A·C Cosmetics (@maccosmetics) on

MAC just dropped a video on Instagram and Facebook that says : MAC at ULTA. Of course MAC fans went crazy asking a million questions. Well, let me give you guys the 411. According to WWD, MAC is trying to reach a different audience and also increase sales.

To start, MAC products will be carried online at Ulta.com in May, followed by about 25 stores in June and by the end of the year in about 100 ULTA Beauty Stores nationwide. While this is very exciting for us makeup fans, some fans don’t think so. While reading some of the comments on social media, MAC fans are saying that it will cheapen the brand and that they like the fact that MAC was exclusive to high end department stores and MAC stores only.

MAC Global Brand President Karen Buglisi Weiler said in an interview: “This is a great opportunity to bring MAC on stream to a whole new audience”, she also added: “In my mind, there’s maybe a customer who shops at Ulta, but has never walked into a MAC store. Maybe she’s never walked into a Nordstrom to purchase MAC or maybe she’s never walked into a Macy’s.

What do you guys think about MAC being available for purchase at ULTA? Does it cheapen the brand? Let me know in the comments and let’s chat.

Great post. I think I am going have to disagree with the “general consensus” on this one. They have to look at it from a business standpoint. I get that to them MAC is a luxury and exclusive brand. However, with all the businesses (even fashion ones)constantly entering bankruptcy or closing all together they are looking at ways that can avoid that if possible. Just like you mentioned in the post they are trying to increase their sales. Plus, more MAC fans who might not have a local MAC, Macy’s, Belk, Saks, or etc. will be able to purchase their products as well. We have a Ulta Beauty not too far from where I live. I have only been there maybe a few times since it opened a few years ago. There weren’t that many customers in the store, Their prices are not necessarily “cheap”, or overly expensive either. I think sometimes people are afraid of change. However, I think it is still too early to react. I will see how it goes before I make any further opinions. They could be surprised and it is not as bad as they initially feared. Hopefully, this will also lead to them expanding their brand selection even further. Sorry for the long comment. I want to cover everything. 😀

Yeah, I agree with you, I like to see the makeup in person and try it on etc…not just shop online all the time.
I think that at ULTA you don’t really have to be a MUA to work there, not sure. I think that they have sales people too not necessarily MUA only, I will check on that.
    Thanks for stopping by!
