
Miss Universe Dominican Republic Sal Garcia National Costume inspired by the work of Dominican Painter Cándido Bidó

Miss Universe Dominican Republic Sal Garcia, debuted her National Costume on stage at the Mall of Asia during last night’s preliminary competition of the Miss Universe Pageant in the Philippines. Her National Costume was inspired by the work of Dominican Painter Cándido Bidó and it was designed and created by fashion designer Leonel Lirio with the help of Luis Rivas.

Cándido Bidó, who died in 2011, was one of the most notable painters and fine artist in the Dominican Republic. He was known for his colorful paintings, as well as drawings and sculptures. His Art represented the Dominican people in their natural environment including flowers, birds, fish and homes.

After the pageant, the costume is going to be donated to the Cándido Bidó Museum and Art Gallery in the late painter’s hometown of Bonao in the Dominican Republic. The Miss Universe Pageant will be broadcast LIVE tonight at 7:00 PM on FOX. The show will be hosted by Comedian Steve Harvey and Supermodel Ashley Graham will be the backstage correspondent.
