Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 2018 (Photos)
According to the Dior website, it was all about black and white, optical games and illusion at the Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 2018 Show in Paris yesterday. Even the décor of the show was designed to reflect the Surrealist inspirations of the collection designed by Dior’s Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri.
When I first saw the pictures of the show, I thought of Salvador Dali, having visited his museum recently but the collection was inspired by another surrealist Leonor Fini, the Argentinian born painter, designer, illustrator, and author, known for her depictions of powerful women. Fini was raised in Italy and when she moved to Paris in the 1930s, she held her first exhibition in Christian Dior’s gallery. They were good friends and whenever she made an appearance, which was not very often, she wore Dior.
The checkerboard runway was filled with fitted suits, long coats, and floor length gowns in solid black or white, as well as stripes, checker print and a polka dot print that was strategically placed to look more like dominos than regular polka dots, it was brilliant! And very elegant of course. The models wore masks and some of the dresses featured caging and feathers. It was the contrast of femininity and masculinity that I loved the most about the looks.
With over 70 looks, we can’t show them all but here are some of my favorites. Shop for Dior Haute Couture, accessories and more at your local Dior store and online at www.dior.com.
