NYFW: Cushnie Spring 2019 Ready-To-Wear (Photos)
Carly Cushnie showcased her Spring 2019 RTW collection yesterday during New York Fashion Week, her first solo show under her newly rebranded Cushnie label after Michelle Ochs, her partner of 10 years in Cushnie et Ochs, left the company early this year.
The Cushnie et Ochs label was known for its sleek and minimalist aesthetic. Cushnie continued with the label’s aesthetic but added her own flare, inspired by her Caribbean roots (Carly is British-Jamaican). The models rocked bold colors such as yellow, green, red, denim and a gorgeous palm print, complemented with slicked back hair and giant hoop earrings.
She also featured 3 plus size models on her show: Marquita Pring, Candice Huffine and Yvonne Simone.
Carly also unveiled her first denim capsule collection in collaboration with Lee Jeans, at the runway show. The Lee Body Optix x CUSHNIE denim collection features five sleek silhouettes for a sexy, elegant take on denim.
“I’m so thrilled to finally debut my denim collection with Lee Body Optix. Featuring denim on the runway is something I’ve always wanted to do, as it gives me the opportunity to style my collection in a new light,” said Carly Cushnie, CEO, Creative Director and Co-Founder of CUSHNIE in a press release. “The CUSHNIE aesthetic is entirely centered around the female form – when designing each piece, I think about how a woman’s going to feel in it, look in it, walk in it. When I first learned of the new Lee Body Optix technology, designed to contour and flatter a woman’s body- it really felt like the perfect fit to collaborate.”
The U.S. Lee Jeans Body Optix collection launched in August but the Lee Body Optix x CUSHNIE Collaboration will not launch until late October. The prices of the items will range from $250 to $595 dollars.
Flying solo after a long partnership can be difficult. There are a lot of challenges and expectations but after this collection, I think that Carly is going to be OK.
